| The V&A's major exhibition for
the summer of 2003, our brief was to design an investigative
exhibition about art deco’s global range and
influence from 1910 - 1939.
The story is told over three large rooms; each
room depicting art deco exhibits from different
continents around the globe. The distinctive drama
and glamour of the exhibits on display and the
vast scale of some of the objects, made it essential
the interior elements to the rooms were strong
in supporting and evoking the theme and objects
but not crowding or competing with it. Hence the
simple but architecturally strong arrangement
of back lit horizontal and vertical planes that
created dramatic metallic backdrops and luminous
stages for the showcases, objects and video footage
throughout the three spaces. |
